Canelo Alvarez will be taking on Callum Smith in what will be a massive middleweight fight on Saturday, 19th December 2020. Alavrez who broke free off his massive £278million deal with DAZN was looking for big fight and of all the available options Callum Smith attracted the best interest for Alvarez camp who has not fought since beating Sergy Kovalev back in November 2019. Early reports suggest it wont be an PPV event and will be aired via DAZN streaming platform worldwide including the UK.
Alvarez vs Smith Purse Payouts:
Canelo Alvarez is a free agent having cut ties with both Golden Boy and DAZN and after breaking from that $350 million DAZN deal Alavrez is looking to maximize his revenue by not attaching himself to any of the networks. For the Cullum Smith fight he has a one-off deal with DAZN and Eddie Hearn’s matchroom on a worldwide coverage basis.
Alavrez is guaranteed a $20 million from this fight which is significantly less compared to his recent PPV event where he was making upwords of $30 million per fight. Since Canelo vs Smith is not a PPV event, both fighters will get fixed share of network’s revenue regardless how much DAZN generate from this fight.
Callum Smith on the other hand is undefeated in his career but Canelo will be his toughest test yet. He will be making around $8 to $10 million from this fight.
